My name is Roberto Cortez and I was born in Venezuela, but I have spent most of my life in Coimbra – Portugal, where I currently live. I am a professional Java Developer working in the software development industry, with more than 8 years of experience in business areas like Finance, Insurance and Government. I have finished my degree in Informatics Engineering (equivalent to the Bologna Master’s degree) from the Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra in 2006, however I started to learn and enjoy Java in 1998.
I work with many Java based technologies like JavaEE, Spring, Hibernate, GWT, JBoss AS and Maven just to name a few, always relying on my favorite IDE: IntelliJ IDEA.
As a Freelancer / Independent Contractor I travelled around the world (an old dream) to customers, but also to attend Java conferences. The direct contact with the Java community made me want to become an active member in the community itself. For that reason, I have created the Coimbra Java User Group, started to contribute to Open Source on Github and launched this blog, so I can share some of the knowledge that I gained over the years. I hope you find it useful!
Currently, I’m working with Tomitribe. After working for a few major corporations, I’m eager to help and grow something from the ground up. I’m very excited to work with all the amazing tribers working hard to make TomEE a compelling Java EE server.

Podias fazer um post (ou apontar-me na direcção) de qual é a melhor arquitectura (e se calhar até com exemplos) para aplicações web enterprise em JEE? É que já vi várias coisas mas nada que seja remotamente próximo de best practices.

I noticed your post about: “five ways not to suck at being java freelancer”, and to be honest, I’m having the same feeling you had of being bored and understimate as a Java programmer.
BTW I’m a Venezuelan guy currently living in Panama. I started searching over the internet and so far found quite a few links giving recomendations about freelancing, how to write a good resume to not being rejected by applicant tracking system, etc… but I’ve had not luck so far… I know that I’m still beginning w/ this but I feel that I’m not in the right path yet.
I would be very appreciated if you can give me recomendations about it, what need I do first, where should I look, etc.

Very nice to meet you. I’m also from Venezuela.
Most of my experience from freelance comes from recommendations from other people. Usually, someone in some place needs something to be done. That’s where I came in, and take these opportunities. Nothing can beat recommendation, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the resume. Yeah, you need to have one, but I would focus more on building your experience and connecting with people. Colleagues are usually eager to help, so maybe they can recommend you.

Estive a ver o teu post sobre o Wildfly, o qual achei muito interessante, e gostava que me desses uma ajuda se possível, uma vez que tenho usado maioritariamente Glassfish.
Tenho um war em que preciso da dependência “jersey-container-grizzly2-servlet” e queria coloca-la como provided no Wildfly para reduzir drasticamente o tamanho do meu EAR. Consegues-me dar uma ajuda, ou orientar-me um sítio onde consiga retirar esta informação?

Para fazer o que pretendes, deves usar Wildfly Modules. Assim, consegues fazer deploy de libraries directamente no servidor para usar nas aplicações. Talvez estes links possam ajudar:
